Prof. Dr. Martin Wiener
Martin Wiener is Associate Professor in the Information and Process Management (IPM) Department at Bentley University and Affiliated Researcher at the Stockholm School of Economics Institute for Research (Sweden). Before joining Bentley, Martin was an Assistant Professor in Information Systems at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany) and Managing Director of the Dr. Theo and Friedl Schoeller Research Center for Business and Society.
Martin studied Information Systems at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. After completing his studies in 2004, he spent a summer term at Harvard University, Cambridge (USA), and then returned to Nuremberg for working on his doctoral thesis. He received his doctorate in 2006 and won the dissertation award 2007 of the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation for his thesis on IT offshoring. From 2007 to 2009, Martin worked as a strategy consultant with an international management-consulting firm in Munich (Germany). He was Visiting Researcher at the University of Canterbury (New Zealand), the Stockholm School of Economics (Sweden), and the University of Central Florida (USA) in 2010, 2011, and 2013, respectively. During the academic year 2013-2014, Martin acted as Program Director for a new Master Program in International Business at the Stockholm School of Economics and was Visiting Faculty in the Department of Management and Organization (DMO).
Martin’s teaching interests include business process management, technology and innovation management, IS project management and IT sourcing strategies, as well as qualitative and quantitative research methods.
His research concerns IS project control, IT multi-sourcing, digital business models, and IT-related information overload, and has been published in outlets such as Information Systems Journal, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Information Technology, Business & Information Systems Engineering (WIRTSCHAFTSINFORMATIK), Communications of the AIS, Journal of Global Information Management, and Journal of Global Information Technology Management. Recently, he has also published a Harvard Business School (HBS) teaching case on a new IT multi-sourcing strategy employed by sporting goods company adidas.
Martin is a member of the Information & Management Board of Editors. He has been/will be Track Co-Chair (ECIS 2013, 2014, and 2016) and Associate Editor (ECIS and ICIS) for major IS conferences, and acts as regular reviewer for top-ranked IS journals including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and European Journal of Information Systems.
